SINGAPORE: National triathlete Mok Ying Ren will not appeal against the three-month ban imposed on him in December last year by the Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS).
The ban came after an incident in Bali during the Asian Beach Games last year. The 20-year-old was found with a fellow female athlete in his hostel room, without the permission of the officials concerned.

Mok said he is glad the issue is over and that it did not adversely affect his medical studies and training.

He also wishes to continue representing Singapore in the sport which he loves very much.

The Singapore Sports Council played a proactive role in resolving the issue and TAS president Mark Tay applauded Mok’s decision.

Tay praised Mok’s talent and said he can achieve his full potential as an elite triathlete with the right motivation. TAS will do its best to help Mok achieve this aim.

A statement from TAS said the incident also highlighted the need for better communication between athletes and team management officials.

Both parties said the matter is now closed.
