WARNING: VERY VERY VERY VERY LONG POST
heres my series of long updates happening in cross lately, since… July. haha please excuse my english, and my few photos!
first of all, congrats to our winning bloggers, Sarah T. (1Aug), Fabian (6Aug), Veron (29Jul) i put the dates of their posts there so you could find their posts more easily if you wanna read them heh
i’ve enjoyed reading the “why do i run” stories, it’s so cool to see running from a teammate’s perspective. similar, and yet, unique at the same time. i find it refreshing 🙂 and it reminded me of the times in my secondary school when i first joined cross. the 1000 awesome things about running.
SO… we hadnt much of a team update since July. that’s my main reason for this post actually. and im gna add a personal touch to it. 🙂
Apologies if i missed out any events, too many things have been gng on lately… but based on the photo albums in my comp, ( and some stolen off facebook ), we’ve had:
19-20June: Xcountry ninja warriors!
where our nus armadilloes & panthers waited for HOURS, just for their turn to go up the obstacle course. heh. not to mention, as mel lim puts it, ” the return of our former poster boy” alan came to help out in the 2nd day to replace Roy, while my sis replaced Huixiang, and Madan replaced Jinyang. lol. whatever the outcome, be it dropping into the water or making it to the end, it was entertaining for us supporters to cheer for our teammates not just in running. it was really a great effort displayed by each of them.
24-25July: Chalet for our dearest exco last year, graduating seniors, and july babies yongqiang&baldwin
As it was held in the midst of rag preparation in my case, i hadn’t seen the team for about 4 weeks? but seeing you guys totally made my weekend. when i went back to school that same sunday, the chalet cum bbq weekend felt like my weekend was all a dream (not that my rag experience was terrible, but i think more like no team could replace our xcountry team, and i had grown used to staying in school on weekdays) it was fun, relaxing, and so many AWW moments, chatting with one another, hearing each other’s stories over the holidays, catching a nice sunrise, i couldn’t believe it happened. it felt very heartwarming. 🙂
31July: RUNNUS Recce
hah. a few of us signed up as volunteers, i didn’t. i stayed in the safety car with Mel.T & Melvin (part of our camp’s safety officer crew hehe), and had a lovely time just watching you guys run by and taking photos hahahaha. it was quite fun. or maybe, just cheap thrill. 😀
13-14Aug: the first week of school. we welcomed about 30 freshies to our family through our camp, of which senior-to-freshie ratio was about 1:1! hahah! it was quite an experience for me. i admit i was a little scared being an emcee. but it was great to see the seniors and freshies getting to know one another through all these activities/games/cheers/etc.
10 Sept: the almighty azrul held a mini-gathering at his house in celebration of Hari Raya since he wasn’t allowed to leave his home haha.
12 Sept (2 days later) , while some of our teammates were at AHM, i had the best long run in 12 weeks. (yes i’ve been missing that many mac ritchie runs ) i’m so glad i was able to come down finally. 🙂
12pm sharp: we held a “surprise” birthday celebration in United Square’s Swensens. where it was all not-that-healthy food and earthquake icecream, cake, with random conversations and photos here, there and everywhere. it was also again another great get together for us all (esp in the midst of a busy sem), maybe because i always feel that there’s always a sense of AWW-ness when we meet up in a big group. heh.
the following friday, amidst the period of timetrials for IVP, we celebrated the Sept babies birthdays! They’re Jackie, Yannick, Chun Kai, Azrul (again), Alan Sim, Hui Xiang, & Tai Hau (though sadly, the last 3 werent present 😦 ) it was yummy mango cake. 😀 We also presented our thank you gift book of photos to mr quek, and the prizes for our blogwinners too!
Recess Week: whoa. quite hapz.
18 Sept Saturday, Hari Raya @ Zak’s where we had a hearty meal, and watched random shows like pearl harbour glee etc on her tv. followed by a few of us going to Bukit Gombak to celebrate Madan @ SingOpen, where he totally owned at 1500m with a new pb 🙂 (and won 800m the next day!!!) keep it up madan! We’re really happy for you 🙂
somewhere in the middle of the week, there was a mini gathering at MBS to celebrate Yannick’s birthday, the pictures uploaded are just whoa. place looks quite boomz. unfortunately i was using the time to study for my midterms hence i didnt go. pictures are up on fbk!
22nd Sept Friday, right after training, we celebrated Mooncake festival! with yummy mooncakes of about 3 different flavours, white choc truffle, durian flavoured, and the lotus paste one with yolk. (thanks patrick, roy & ben for buying them :))
23rd Sept Saturday, 11 of us went attended Chun Kai & Melvin’s Vegeterian Odyssey @ Miao Yi Restaurant in Coronation followed by a short walk to Island creamery for yummy ice cream 🙂 We had fake deer meat (Venison meat), Yam Ring, Oni, fake fish head, fried rice, noodles, beehoon, all pretty interesting and yummy dishes hehe. Not to mention, JinYang got a chance to be the centre of attention between 2 lovely ladies, Mel Lim & Cai Sang, and Jackie was able to enjoy a few loving moments with Giri. it was a pleasant meal. 🙂 We also “celebrated” eric finally getting a job and him peeking at somebody? hmmm.
24 Sept Sunday, Xcountry had a baking session! I/Cs: Mel.T & Ben where i heard mellim brought a certain someone to introduce to us. hehe! i saw pictures of potential househusbands within our team hehheh. food looked yummy. but i wasnt there 😦
and so whats the next big thing? starts in 3 hours. SUNIG. i can’t sleep for some reason. so i thought it be best for me to finish this post before someone goes on to talk about their SUniG experience. hehe
whoaaaa i can barely catch my breath with everything that’s going on. NEXT UP, we have SUniG, teamNUS sports award ceremony next wednesday, IVP on the 24th and 30th October, before we start our preparation for exams. time flies by pretty fast.
it wasnt so long ago when my sis and i met mel lim at tioman island, she was advertising the cross team to us then haha. i was still contemplating whether to join or not when i met her. and when i came for my first training, mel.t had just came back from an internship. we were the only 2 girls that day. i was intimidated then by the guy:girl ratio. but now, the girls team is so big!! Joining xcountry has once again proven to be one of the best decisions in my life. be it the people, the feeling of running, soaking my shirt in sweat, gng to macritchie, etc. despite all the ups and downs some of us have been through, we’re still one big family. 🙂 thanks guys. every single one of you.
